This Privacy Policy applies to EarthGuide3D and the EarthRunner website. EarthGuide3D is an EarthRunner application for Mac. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at contact@earthrunner.org.
Information We Handle
EarthGuide3D is designed to work without creating an EarthRunner account. Depending on the features you use, the app and its local wireless controller may handle the following information:
- Places and guide requests: destinations, selected map positions, related place information, search text or voice-search transcripts, and the settings needed to provide a requested AI guide response.
- Controller and motion data: locally transmitted control input and motion-sensor readings used to operate the experience, including Sports Mode. These inputs normally remain between your devices on the local network.
- App and usage identifiers: a random app-specific identifier, session timestamps and duration, teleport counts, and plan balances. These records support access, quota accounting, restore, security, and troubleshooting; they are not used for advertising. Exact coordinates, distance, and arbitrary controller metadata are not included in quota-accounting events.
- Optional settings: preferences and, if you deliberately choose an advanced bring-your-own-key option, that setting is kept in local app storage on your Mac.
- Purchase information: when purchases are available, Apple processes payment. EarthGuide3D receives product, transaction, subscription-status, and app-specific account-token information needed to verify entitlements, balances, renewals, refunds, and restores; it does not receive your full payment-card information.
- Support messages: the information you include when you email us for support.
How Information Is Used
We use information only to operate and improve the requested feature: to show a selected place, connect a controller on your local network, process a motion input, provide an AI guide response, verify a purchase, respond to support, and protect the service from misuse.
EarthRunner does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
When Information Leaves Your Device
The wireless controller communicates with EarthGuide3D over HTTP on your local network. The QR code contains a private pairing credential that grants access to the running controller session. Keep the code out of view of other people, use a trusted private network or personal hotspot, and avoid public or guest Wi-Fi. Close and reopen EarthGuide3D to replace the pairing credential if it may have been exposed.
Map imagery, place search, purchase verification, quota accounting, and online guide features require internet access. Selected places, request context, usage records, and purchase-verification data may pass through EarthRunner’s Cloudflare-hosted service. AI guide text and speech requests may then be processed by OpenAI. Map and place features may communicate with Cesium ion, Google Maps Platform, Apple MapKit, Wikipedia, or related data providers. Apple processes App Store purchases and subscription status.
If you use voice search, your browser or operating-system speech service may process microphone audio and return a transcript to the controller. EarthGuide3D does not intentionally store the microphone recording. Each service provider handles information under its own privacy terms.
Data Retention and Security
Local preferences, controller history, and optional advanced settings remain on your Mac unless a requested feature needs an online service. Detailed hosted quota-event and session records are automatically deleted after 30 days. Notice-read history is deleted after 365 days, inactive Journey Drop install history after 90 days, and completed privacy-request audit records after 730 days. App Store transaction and refund records, current entitlements, pass balances, and aggregate quota records are retained only as needed to honor purchases, process refunds, prevent duplicate consumable grants, and meet legal obligations. Support correspondence is kept only as reasonably needed for support and legal purposes.
We use access controls, signed App Store verification, short-lived service sessions, and other reasonable safeguards. Local controller traffic is not encrypted, however, and no local or online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your Choices
You can choose not to use voice search or Sports Mode, decline microphone permission, remove local app settings and history from your Mac, and manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account settings. Online map access, entitlement verification, and quota accounting are required for the corresponding EarthGuide3D features.
Choose Delete Service Data in the EarthGuide3D menu to remove detailed hosted usage events, session history, notice reads, and Journey Drop install history. This does not cancel an App Store subscription. Minimum purchase, refund, entitlement, balance, and aggregate quota records remain where needed to preserve access, prevent duplicate grants, or meet legal obligations. You may also email contact@earthrunner.org to ask about, correct, or request deletion of service information associated with your app installation.
Children
EarthGuide3D is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support message, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as EarthGuide3D develops. The latest version will always be available at this page, with its revision date shown above.
